Job Title: ERS Engineering Intern

Location: Concord, NC

GM Performance Power Units is seeking an upper-level undergraduate or graduate level intern to support development of Python tools to analyze performance data for battery cells. This role targets students who want to gain hands-on experience analyzing battery cell performance data.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help develop Python scripts and notebooks to process, clean, and analyze battery cell test and simulation data.
  • Assist with organizing test and simulation datasets and generating clear plots and summaries for the engineering team.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Mid- to upper-level student in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a similar field.
  • Solid Python skills with experience in NumPy.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, learning oriented mindset.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Hands-on experience in Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Formula Student, or another competitive student engineering program.
  • Prior project work that combines engineering domain knowledge with data analytics or machine learning.
  • Desire to learn about the use of Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) for high performance battery cells.
  • Exposure to machine learning frameworks (such as PyTorch or scikit learn) and simple model training workflows or desire to learn.
  • Experience using version control tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative development platforms.

 

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong, hands-on engineering mindset with a bias toward building, testing, and iterating rather than only modeling on paper.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning at the intersection of electrochemistry, data science, and software.
  • Able to work independently on well-scoped tasks while asking timely questions when blocked.
  • Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teammates and incorporating feedback into your work.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and committed to clear documentation and high-quality results.
