F1 Jobs Application Checklist – 2026
Applying for F1 jobs takes more preparation than most people put in. Use this checklist to make sure everything is in place before you submit a single application.

1) Your CV
- Tailored to the specific role, not a generic document sent to every team.
- Describes what you actually did – projects, tools used, outcomes – not just job titles and degree subjects.
- Includes “F1” or “Formula 1” at least once, even if it’s just relating to your hobby. Most teams use applicant tracking systems that filter applications before a human reviews them.
- Lists relevant technical skills by name: software, programming languages, platforms.
- Includes any motorsport exposure – Formula Student, lower series, marshalling, volunteering, karting.
2) Your cover letter
- Written specifically for this team, not adapted from a template.
- References something concrete about the team – a technical direction, a recent result, a specific programme or partnership.
- Three solid paragraphs: who you are and what you’re applying for, why this team specifically, what you bring.
3) Research prep
- Know all 11 F1 teams and what distinguishes each one.
- Read the full job description and match your CV language to what the spec asks for.
- Know which application platform the team uses (Workday, Taleo, SmartRecruiters, direct portal) and have an account set up.
- Bookmark the Formula Careers F1 Jobs Hub
4) Practical documents
- Right to work in the UK confirmed – the majority of F1 jobs are UK-based.
- Two references identified and briefed.
- Professional email address on your CV.
- Portfolio, GitHub repo, or evidence file ready if relevant to your target role.
5) Professional presence
- LinkedIn profile complete, up to date, and consistent with your CV.
- Any other public profiles (GitHub, Behance, portfolio site) clean and professional.
- Following relevant teams, departments, and people on LinkedIn.
6) Interview preparation
- Three or more strong examples of your work, each with a clear outcome.
- Competency answers prepared – handling pressure, problem-solving, working to tight deadlines.
- Technical preparation done for your target discipline.
- Questions ready to ask – specific, research-based.
- If the interview includes a factory tour: engage with what you see. Ask questions. It is part of the assessment.
7) Application strategy
- Applying early – F1 jobs at entry level often close once sufficient applications have been received.
- Tracking every application: date sent, role, team, current status.
- Considering the wider motorsport ecosystem – F1 suppliers, lower series, automotive manufacturers, broadcast and media. Many people in F1 today came through these routes first.
