Societies, Scholarships and Bursaries

There are so many opportunities hiding in many corners of the Internet, so we wanted to make a little more sense of what’s on offer, to give you the very best chance of fulfilling your dream of working in Formula 1.

What is a Society?

A society is a professional organisation specific to a particular area of expertise, ie. engineering, STEM, Finance, etc.  Some societies are student-run so you may be able to join before you have finished your studies.  Joining a society will give you more information and knowledge on your favourite subject, bring you together with like-minded people, and is important for building your CV.  We are in the process of creating a directory listing various societies that you could apply to, please check back soon or make sure you are signed up for our email alerts.

What is a Scholarship?

A scholarship is given to a high achiever, and is a non-repayable award to help with the cost of study.  You will need to meet the criteria for eligibility, and you can normally find details of this together with the application, online.  There are many scholarships on offer, it’s important to do your research and find the one that’s right for you.

We will be creating a list of scholarships within a directory very soon, but for now here is one example for you:

What is a Bursary?

A bursary is a financial grant to help those in financial need, and is non-repayable.  However, you may have to pay back some of your bursary if you decide to leave your course early.  If you come from a low-income family, you may be able to apply for a bursary.  Check the website of your preferred college/University to find out more about their bursary procedure.

COMING SOON – information on all the societies, scholarships and bursaries we can find!  Make sure you sign up for updates so we can let you know when this is added to the website.  Have any you want to share with us?  Then send the information to louise@formulacareers.com and help our Formula Careers community!
